Stand-Up Comedy Poster Design – Dark : Vintage Tour Style This project is a poster design created for an underground stand-up comedy event featuring Mark Gagnon and a lineup of comics and performers. The project was commissioned through Behance, reflecting a cross-platform collaboration between client and designer. The event embraces a raw, alternative atmosphere far from mainstream comedy shows targeting a niche audience that values authenticity and live performance energy. The visual direction responds to this tone, combining bold compositions, layered imagery, and a darker aesthetic to capture the intensity and unpredictability of the live experience.
Challenge
The main challenge was translating the energy of a live underground comedy show into a static visual format. Unlike mainstream events, the poster needed to feel less polished and more expressive while still maintaining clarity and readability. Another challenge was ensuring that the vintage-inspired visual direction did not compromise the legibility of key information. Balancing aged textures, layered visuals, and modern hierarchy became essential to keep the design both atmospheric and functional.
Solution
The solution focused on applying a Dark: Vintage Tour Style through a combination of distressed textures, high-contrast visuals, and layered compositions. Elements such as grain, rough overlays, and collage-style imagery were used to recreate the feel of classic tour posters, while bold color accents help guide attention and maintain visual hierarchy. The central figure is emphasized to anchor the composition, supported by surrounding visuals that build narrative and intensity. Typography and layout are structured carefully to ensure that essential details remain clear within the expressive and textured environment.
Result
The final poster successfully captures the raw and nostalgic energy of an underground comedy event, combining vintage aesthetics with a contemporary visual approach. It functions effectively as a promotional tool while also reflecting the identity and atmosphere of the event.
